RICK DECKARD'S SEDAN

Scale 1:24 - Styrene

A diorama inspired by the movie Blade Runner (1982) built around a model of Deckard’s car, as designed by concept artist Syd Mead.

THE CAR

The car is based on a relatively good kit by Fujimi. I welded several SMD LEDs to 32awg (0.2mm) magnet wire to light up the interior panels, headlights and brake lights.

The interior of all surfaces was covered with self adhesive aluminum foil to stop light leakage.

THE BUILDING

The building was scratch built using white styrene and transparent acetate. The two levels are held together with 3mm screws that can be removed to access the LEDs.

ELECTRONICS

The diorama incorporates 40 LEDs and a 5 inch TFT display, all controlled by a Raspberry Pi zero, located inside the second level of the building.

DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP?

Though the movie differs greatly from the book that inspired it, the diorama lives between the two worlds, with a reference to the book’s plot on one of the screens.
